After discussing the various interpretations of what one considers negative humor, I've realized how prevalent it is on a daily basis. In fact, you can argue most of the humor used in the 18-24 demographic is negative or has a negative slant. I found this to be the case more so in the northeast than Texas, but that could be due to cultural factors.
One of my friends is very tolerant in terms of the quantity and variety of humor he can give and receive, which is a rare and admirable quality. He's one of the few people I can always joke with and understand that there won't be any hard feelings since neither of us takes ourselves too seriously. After thinking about, almost all of our humor is negative in some context, which is why we are wary to use it around people we are unfamiliar with. Out of context, I understand now that different types of humor can be taken differently than they were intended to be and that "it was only a joke", does not suffice as an excuse to most.
